Team Member Wanted in Ship Acoustics / CFD
Shape the future of ship acoustics and reduce underwater noise at its source.
Job Overview
JASCO-ShipConsult, based in Schwentinental near Kiel, is looking to hire a team member in the field of ship acoustics with a focus on hydrodynamics at the earliest possible start date.
Your primary responsibility will be to investigate hydrodynamic effects upstream of and around the propeller of large single-screw merchant vessels as part of the BMWE-funded research project “TT-Schall.” The objective of this project—and therefore of your role—is to develop a technical solution that reduces underwater noise emissions without compromising efficiency.
A comprehensive onboarding phase with close guidance will be provided. After completion of the project, this permanent position will continue independently of specific research projects.
Your Responsibilities

Carrying out R&D activities within the “TT-Schall” research project:
- Investigating how the wake field can be manipulated (e.g., through upstream appendages) to reduce cavitation-induced noise radiation from the propeller without causing efficiency losses
- Using CFD tools for hydrodynamic analysis
- Building on existing in-house expertise and results from previous projects
- Collaborating with HAW Kiel, HSVA, JASCO sister companies, and additional industry partners
